On the back of the Incarceration Issue, the special edition exploring Australia’s complicated relationship with imprisonment, VICE Australia recently won the ‘Multi Channel Brand of the Year’ at the 2015 Publish Awards. VICE has made its name in the media landscape by embracing new formats – but never before have we challenged ourselves to dedicate our company resources and channels to a single issue, delivered across every platform on such a scale. The issue was realised across multiple formats: a print magazine; an online edition featuring additional content; a video documentary series; and a live event panel featuring industry experts.
We also won silver for ‘Content Company of the Year’, and bronze for ‘Best Use of Craft’ for Holden Car vs Drones, a video made in collaboration with Holden, and directed by veteran of the global design community— Bradley “GMUNK” Munkowitz. The video, which was also used as a television ad for the Holden Astra, sees a slick black vehicle caged in a warehouse, pitted against a swarm of drones setting a moving obstacle course.
